  • Hello we are a African/uk family relocating to Truro after Christmas we are all very excited. But I am worried about putting my children into the local schools which seem to be all white ??Please can any one advise us?? Thank you
    • there has been some problems reported, but there are agencies in the County that can advise
    • I grew up in Truro and went to school there and, having moved away to cardiff for university, I have become very aware of how 'white' Cornwall may appear. But that is not because Cornish people don't want other ethnicities. It is just a case that not many ethnic groups have decided to live there. I honestly don't think your children will have any problems. It will be as hard for your children as it will be for the current pupils but, having gone to school in Truro, I doubt they will come across any problems at all. Good luck- it's a great place to be a child!

  • My name is Hannah. I work for Social Services Information Team, publicising the care we can provide with leaflets and our website. One of the tasks I've been given is to do with contacting older people from ethnic minorities who may not have good English. We are thinking of producing a poster with images and not too many words, explaining the help we can provide, and putting it up in likely places to catch these people. Can anybody suggest useful places, further ideas, contact details, etc? Please phone me on 01872 322532 or e-mail: hdanson@cornwall.gov.uk Thanks for your help.
